Assessment of student achievement, effort, and participation are used as measures of student progress toward meeting instructional objectives. Grading of student's work must be regular and related to the different learning areas of each subject. Sharing of information among parents/guardians, teachers/counselors, and students is an integral part of this process.

  High School Assessment Policy
In order to meet the objectives of the High School Assessment Philosophy,

  • teachers will use multiple techniques when assessing student progress (quizzes, tests, oral and written reports, presentations, laboratory experiments, class participation, journals, etc)
  • assessment will be also be based on the student's level of mastery of course objectives
  • teachers will report to parents/guardians regularly, at the end of each quarter, as to the progress being made by their students
  • parents/guardians will be alerted and conferred with as soon as possible when a student's progress or attitude become unsatisfactory or shows marked or sudden deterioration
  • whenever a student's grade falls below 70%, parents/guardians will be notified through a Progress Report
  • teachers and the counselor will meet periodically to discuss pupil progress at each grade level
  • the counselor, principal, or a teacher may call for a parent conference at any time in order to discuss a student's progress
  • parent requested conferences are welcomed at any time
  • students' whose GPA falls below 1.6 at the end of any marking period, will be placed on Academic Probation
  • teachers and staff will inform, at the beginning of the school year, parents, students, and the administration of their classroom expectations and grading procedures
  • semester exams will be given twice each year, at the end of each semester, counting no more than 20% of the semester grade

  Grade Reporting
Formal grades are reported to parents four times during the school year: at the mid-point of each semester (the end of each quarter) and at the completion of each semester. Mid-semester grades provide information about a student's performance and progress but are not recorded on permanent, legal transcripts. Only final semester grades are recorded on permanent, legal transcripts. Semester grades determine whether or not credit is awarded.

  Honor Rolls

  • Principal's Honor Roll - Students whose grade point average is 3.800 and above for the semester
  • Honor Roll - Students whose grade point average is 3.600 and above for the semester.

      Transfer of Credit
Upon admission to AAG, students must bring to the Registrar any and all available school records. The principal, who will decide how credit for courses taken at other schools will be applied to graduation requirements at AAG, will then review this information.

Courses/credits from other schools will not be reflected on official AAG transcripts. Students are responsible for obtaining official transcripts from other schools that they have attended when applying to universities, etc.

A student's academic standing cannot be completely and correctly assessed without all previous records. It is imperative that parents obtain these records and make sure that they are made available to AAG prior to the first day of school.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences

At the end of the first quarter, parents are asked to meet with all the student's teachers in order to review the student's progress and report card for that period.

Parents and teachers may request a conference at any time to discuss a student's progress and/or behavior. Parents may call the school and arrange a time that is convenient for themselves and the teacher(s) they wish to meet with. If a teacher wishes to meet with a parent, the school will contact the parent and arrange a convenient time for the meeting.

    Uniforms

School uniforms are to be worn by all students. Fit and length should be appropriate for school. Any questions should be directed to the principal before uniforms are made or purchased.

Students dressed inappropriately will be given a warning and a grace period of two (2) days to correct the violation.

The principal and/or her designee reserve the right to make the final decision of whether or not a student's attire is appropriate.

The following are the general guidelines for student dress at AAG:
